Kea is also known by its Venetian name Tzia, it is one of the Cycladic islands that has kept its natural beauty, since it is not visited by many tourists like the other islands in Cyclades. This however does not make the island less attractive to visitors, quite the opposite in fact; the island is full of natural beauties and archeological monuments, whereas on the green slopes of the island you will find olive groves, almond trees and oak trees. Here you can also find clean beaches with fine sand, many accessible by foot. The main town of Kea, Ioulis, is a great example of classic Cycladic architecture and is built on a hill approximately 6km. from the port of the island, Korrisia. An extensive network of ancient marked footpaths criss-cross the island, for those willing to explore its natural beauty on foot. |
