Antonis Abatzis, a world-travelling accomplished artist and one of our Mykonso Concierges has been a Mykonos resident and aficionado for more than 3 decades, having spent many a day on the vibrant island. We pressed him hard, but he yielded ultimately to share his favourite must-do/see things to do on Mykonos. Enjoy!
1) ISLAND OF DELOS (ARCHAELOGICAL SITE)
A trip to this amazing sacred island is a unique experience! Spiritual and unique, it is the largest archaeological site in Europe. Greek legend has it that this was the birthplace of Apollo (the god of music and light) and Artemis (the goddess of the wilderness, animals and the hunt). Sun screen is a must, so are comfortable shoes for walking.
2) LENA'S HOUSE
Lena's house is a free folk museum, open in the evenings and it offers a historic interior, nostalgic atmosphere and period rooms. A great view into the past life on the island, well maintained and compact
3) LITTLE VENICE
Little Venice is the most photographed part of Mykonos. Overlooking the southwest end of the harbor, it was here that many early ship captains decided to settle down and built uniquely magnificent homes overlooking the sea. Today, many of these historic homes have been transformed into a variety of cozy restaurants, bars, shops and nightclubs, making this a bustling place at all hours of the day. Sit in one of the cafes by the water and just enjoy the waters splashing as you sip a hot cup of cappuccino :).
4) GIORAS WOOD MEDIEVAL BAKERY
The oldest bakery in town it is also the second oldest building in town (500 year old). It is down some steps and well hidden, but when discovered great Greek coffee (Metrio) and a lovely family business with great breads, biscuits and awesome pastries are for you to enjoy and you can watch Gioras baking using the wood oven. Give some honest time to Chloe and listen to the bakery's story...worth every second.
5) ARMENISTIS LIGHT HOUSE
At the northern most tip of the island the drive to this place is not a great one, but once you get there, it is all worth it. The structure itself is a bit dilapidated but the views from here are beyond gorgeous, best at sunset and you can see several of the other islands and much of Mykonos.
6) PARAPORTIANI CHURCH
A group of five Cycladic Churches this is a pretty impressive building. It does not have a dome on the top like the other churches on the island and is quite an odd shape. This somber white-washed church dates back to the Byzantine era and features a variety of religious decorations dating back to the middle Ages.
7) WINDMILLS AREA (KATO MILLOI)
This is one of the landmark places in Mykonos and gives you great views of sunset .It is a great place to witness the sunset, go a little early walk around take some pictures and wait for the sunset, then you can enjoy great sea food by the sea . These iconic windmills overlooking Little Venice date back to the 16th century when islanders used wind power to grind grain.
8) MATOYIANNI STREET
Quaint, funky, chic and pristine. Authentic and upscale at the same time, the main street of Mykonos encapsulates everything that is lovely about this unique island. Shop, eat, drink and watch everyone and anyone from all over the world.
9) RARITY GALLERY
This is a unique gallery and any art lover that visits Mykonos will like this place. Beautiful art, unusual pieces and owners that are always ready and willing to share their love and knowledge for art .
10) CINE MANTO MYKONOS
An open air cinema surrounded be a beautiful garden! A really amazing location where you can have delicious cocktails and food while watching a Woody Allen Movie. The movies are changing nearly on weekly basis. A small paradise in the center of the town!
11) TRIA PIGADIA AREA
Tria Pigadia (3 wells) is a popular meeting place at the centre of Old Town. These three wells date from mid 18th centuries and until 1956 they were the ones that brought water to the town of Mykonos (a much smaller village back then). A nice legend about them is that if he who manage to drink from all 3 of them will never leave the island! Another legend says that if a virgin drinks from all three she will find a husband! As these wells are not functional anymore it is hard to test the legends :)
12) MYKONOS FAMOUS CHURCHES
Mykonos is well known for its numerous little churches, more than 500 around the island. Take the time and visit some of them like in down town area the Greek Orthodox Church of "Agios Georgios", a beautiful little church, built in the 15th Century, in the traditional Cycladic architectural style, praising the glory of Saint George. In its interior, the fantastic atmosphere of Greek Orthodox churches: beautiful golden framed sacred icons and candle holders! Dozens of candles lit by locals and visitors! Touching and amazing! If you still have some spare time, cross the street and visit the twin church of Saint Barbara and Saint Fanourios, built 1883
13) ANO MERA AND PANAGIA TOURLIANI MONASTERY
AnoMera is the island’s only other real town, a typical and authentic Greek village that sports an interesting little town square with an array of great restaurants and tavernas with arguably the best food on the island. The 18th century Monastery of Panagia Tourliani — located on the square — is renowned for its intricate marble carvings and massive Italian baroque altar screen. Spiritual and uplifting place.
14) AGIOS SOSTIS BEACH & KIKI'S TAVERNA
A beautiful beach left completely natural and undeveloped with a wild beauty and perfectly clear waters. Right above the beach one of the best kept secrets of the island is KIKI'S taverna where Vassilis and his staff cook the most delicious salads and bbq items in a small and intimate little yard. Friendly service and fantastic views.
15) LIA BEACH
Beautiful, crystal clear water, nice sand and chairs and umbrellas to rent but no loud music! This family oriented chic beach is very peaceful and relaxing, one of the very few on the island where the sound of the ocean is more important than the music. The beach does have a great restaurant (LIASTI) and a dive center with a very good beach service and good price.
16) PSAROU BEACH AND NAMMOS RESTAURANT
Psarou is a narrow beach with soft sand, overlooking the shallow turquoise blue sea and amazing yachts from all its jet setter clientele. This beach is packed full of comfortable sun beds and chilled lounge music which the who is who on the island enjoys. Nammos restaurant and bar is the absolute must for the in crowd and it’s the epicenter of the social life on the island while serves great food and plays the best music. A MILLIONAIRE life style for a day!!
17) FTELIA BEACH AND RESTAURANTS ''FARMA'' AND '' ALEMAGOU''
Chill and enjoy the good vibe. Excellent sand, international people, nice music. A pretty windy beach most times - and often lots of windsurfers and kiters. Two great restaurants one on each end of the beach. ''Farma'' is an Italian/Greek, lounging and kind of hippy chic place with gourmet food that just opened up and ''Alemagou'' is a fun up beat beach bar-restaurant hosting events and great parties.
18) FOKOS BEACH & FOKOS TAVERNA
It is a fab beach for solitude and being wild. Far from everything and proud for it this place shelters all kinds of guests, a very eclectic crowd. The excellent beach taverna is all there is in the area and Kate's food and Marisa's service is a sweet trap. Throw down a towel in the mostly quiet beach and you are in heaven.
19) KALAFATIS BEACH with MARKOS TAVERNA and SPILIA restaurant
Kalafatis Beach is where you go if you are into water sports. It boasts its own wind surfing centre and is also the place for jet-skiing and scuba diving, all in a long stretch of sand that reminds a sleepy beach town. Many good tavernas in the area but the one i would suggest if you like fresh fish is MARKOS taverna, where local fishermen prepare great Greek food and mainly fresh fish. SPILIA restaurant is on the side of AGIA ANNA beach
and you enjoy great pasta and fish food recepies under a huge rock formation and right next to the water . A very cool place that epitomizes the island life and vibe.
20) CAVO PARADISO
This after hours club is one of the best party places around the world. The venue is carved into the side of a mountain above Paradise beach and offers 360 insane views of the island and the ocean. Make sure you stay to watch the sunrise while dancing to the music of the best DJ'S from around the world.
21) SUNSET PARTY AND CABARET SHOW AT ELYSIUM HOTEL
Friendly atmosphere and easy to meet people for everywhere, watch the best sunset views, the whole town and the windmills while lounging around the beautiful pool. The sensational drag show is over the top and one of the best entertainment of the island.
Jackie'o is the king of night life in Mykonos. There is the beach bar-restaurant at Super Paradise beach and the night club in the town. The restaurant has amazing food and wonderful views in a very cosmopolitan setting.
The night club is awesome too and always crowded with a very eclectic, mixed crowd.

The much loved performers such as Phyllis Pastore, Kathy "Babe" Robinson, with David Dyer on the piano are always of very high quality.
24) BOAT TRIP
If spending a few days in Mykonos do not think twice and book a boat trip. One of the best is captain Sarantis who will take you for a trip along the coast line of the island, the amazing and unique caves of Tragonisi Island, many isolated beaches far from crowds and then him and his French wife will prepare for you one of the most amazing lunches you can have on the island.
25) PARAGA BEACH is slowly becoming the new hot spot on the island. SCORPIOS besides being one of the most beautiful designed places/beach bars it also throws the best beach parties, hosts the best dj's and gathers the coolest crowds in its bohemian chic grounds. SANTANA is the new entry with its beautiful and over the top architecture . TASOS taverna is the old standard on the beach but its great food and cool vibe can not be outperformed by the new entries
